Charging costs

EV charging prices in Singapore (Oct 2026)

Advertised per-kWh rates across 2811 public charging locations. The median advertised price is $0.69/kWh, and the cheapest public charger starts at $0.34/kWh. AC (slower, typically 7–22 kW) is usually cheaper than DC fast charging — worth knowing before you plug in, because rates vary widely between operators and even between neighbouring car parks.

What will it cost you to charge?

Consumption figures come from LTA's own homologation data, and the rates are the live medians across Singapore's public charging network. Charging losses are included — you pay for what crosses the charger's meter, not what reaches the battery.

km
Where you charge

$143 a month · $10.62 per 100 km · 206 kWh billed

About $152 a month less than an equivalent petrol car (6.5 L/100 km at $3.37/L).

Assumes 10% charging losses on AC and 5% on DC. Distance starts at 1,350 km a month — a 2025 Singapore car averaged 16,200 km a year, per LTA's mileage survey. Petrol price as of 2026-09-05; your actual cost varies with driving style, aircon use and battery condition.

What a full month of charging actually costs

Running costs for 1,000 km a month at the median AC rate of $0.69/kWh, using LTA's official consumption figure for each car. The petrol column compares a 6.5 L/100 km car at $3.37/L.

AC or DC: the gap is smaller than it looks

DC fast charging advertises about 8% more than AC ($0.75/kWh against $0.69/kWh), which makes AC look like the frugal choice. It mostly isn't. On AC your car's onboard charger does the AC-to-DC conversion, and that happens on your side of the meter — so you pay for roughly 10% of energy that never reaches the battery. A DC charger converts before the meter and loses about 5%. Per kWh that actually ends up in your battery, AC costs $0.772 and DC $0.792 — a real difference of just 2.5%, for charging that is roughly ten times faster.

How Singapore EV charging is priced

Public chargers here bill by energy delivered — dollars per kilowatt-hour — at the operator's advertised rate. DC fast chargers (50 kW and up) charge a premium over AC for the speed. Some networks add app-specific member rates, time-limited promotions, or idle fees once the battery is full; those aren't in the LTA feed, so treat the numbers above as the advertised baseline. Prices do change — new chargers and price changes tracks the week's movements, and every charger page shows the current advertised rate alongside its busy-hour patterns.
